Metro Cash & Carry Serbia, a unit of German retail giant Metro AG, opened its first cash-and-carry store in Serbia, in the Belgrade district of Krnjaca, in January 2005.
In December 2005, the company opened its second store in the country – in Kragujevac. In the same month, the second store in Belgrade and the third in Serbia, in the Zemun district in the capital, opened to business. In October 2006, Metro launched its fourth store, in Novi Sad, and a month later – its fifth in Nis.
