The company provides the service of passenger transport, freight and commissions by railroad in the entire Uruguayan territory. In 1952 in Montevideo, the Administracion de Ferrocarriles del Estado as an autonomous entity ,which was given the market monopoly. The entity was constituted with the purchase of the Companias Britanicas de Ferrocarriles and del Puente del Cuareim and Linea Ferrea de Sayago a Tablada. At the moment the Uruguayan railway network is connected with Argentina, Paraguay and Chile and is in the process of updating itself for which it is trying to add private capital participation.
