Raiffeisen BANK d.d. BiH began operations on November 7, 1992 under the name Market banka d.d. Sarajevo, which was a joint stock corporation with over 90% private shareholders. In July 2000 Austria-based Raiffeisen Zentralbank Oesterreich (RZB) Group became the first foreign investor to take over a Bosnian bank when it acquired a 90% stake of Market banka. The Austrian banking group, which has operations in 15 countries throughout Central and Eatern Europe, renamed the Bosnian lender to Raiffeisen BANK d.d. BiH after the acquisition. In May 2001, the Austrian bank expanded its presence in Bosnia by acquiring privately-owned Hrvatska Postanska Banka (HPB) and renaming it to Raiffeisen Bank HPB dd Mostar. Both commercial banks, located in Bosnia's Moslem-Croat federation, were merged into a single entity in 2003, and continued to operate under the name Raiffeisen BANK d.d. BiH. The lender operates a network of nearly 100 branches and sub-offices nationwide.
