Makedonska posta (Macedonian Post) is the fully state-owned monopoly carrying out the postal services in the country and abroad. It was established as a result of the divestiture of PTT Macedonia into Macedonian Posts and MT. Postal services include acceptance and conveyance of mail (letters, postcards, printed matter, cecograms, small parcels), parcels, and postal and telegraphic orders in Macedonia and world-wide, as well as special, optional and other postal services requested by a sender or receiver.
In 2002 Macedonian Government and Post Canada signed a 20-year concession contract for Macedonian Post for envisaging EUR 56mn of investments. The postal operator would pay 5.0 pct of its annual revenue to the Macedonian state from 2004 to 2007, 10 pct from 2007 to 2012 and 32 pct from 2012 until the end of the 20th year of concession.
The 2nd phase of Post Canada's project on modernisation of Macedonian Posts have been postponed due to the new government confirmed that the agreement needs revision.
In May 2009, the Macedonian post, together with the postal carriers of Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia, launched a joint express mail service (EMS) - delivery within the four countries in 24 hours.
Currently, the company operates over 300 postal offices throughout the country.
