Halkbank AD Skopje was established in 1993 as a joint stock company under the name Export & Credit Bank Skopje (EC Bank). In April 2011 its majority stake was acquired by Turkish state-run lender Halkbank and its name was changed to Halkbank AD Skopje.
The Macedonian lender is a universal bank, with a prevailing activity focused on deposits, lending-guarantee operating, domestic and international payment operations and foreign currency - exchange operations. The bank supports micro, small and medium businesses, as well as individuals, in co-operation with international and local partners, such as European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD London), KfW (Frankfurt), Bankakademie International (Frankfurt), SEDF (New York), BDPM, MRFP, FIOOM Macedonia and others.
