The bank was established in April 1993 under the name Kreditna Banka a.d. Skopje, and was one of the first private banks in Macedonia.
In January 2000, Alpha Bank A.E., Athens, acquired the majority stake in the Macedonian lender and in 2002 it became its sole shareholder. Later the same year Kreditna Banka a.d. Skopje was renamed to Alpha Bank Skopje. In 2016 was acquired by Silk Road Capital, Switzerland and was renamed to Silk Road Bank AD Skopje
Silk Road Bank operates a branch network of nearly 20 offices (about half located in the capital Skopje) in eleven major cities on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia.
